Dear Parents and Athletes

Well T&F for 05 is over.

Sweat, tears, heart palpitations, goose bumps, butterflies in the stomach, sore voices, nail biting and that was just the coaches.  I am sure that the athletes went through far more. IASAS for all involved was an emotional rollercoaster – despite all the hard work we as coaches were disappointed with the overall result of Girls 6th and Boys 5th. The final result truly did not reflect the spirit, determination and the progress we have made this season as team.

There were some fantastic races, personal bests, a number of medals and 3 school records and no doubt you have heard all about them. The great thing is that you will be able to watch all the events in the luxury of your own homes, relieving the moments for forever. Taipei American School videoed every event and present each school a box set of DVDs, I am getting them copied so the athletes will be able to borrow them soon.

We had a number of seniors in the team who will be leaving us and going on to pastures new. It was great that each of them led by example throughout the season and gained medals in IASAS.  All of them have represented ISM in at least 2 IASAS a year over the last 4 years. Daisuki and Maria participated in IASAS T&F for 4years, which highlights there dedication and commitment to the sport.  I wish them all the very best and hope where ever they go they will stay in contact and continue to be enthusiastic towards and participate in sport.

Seniors

Daisuki Izutani –Silver medal and a school record for the Triple Jump.

Kit Guerra – Silver in Shot.

Patrick Filamor – 3rd High Jump

Maria Hettle – 3rd Javelin and 4th Discus.

Tommy Graham – 5th in the 110m Hurdles

3 school records were broken over the weekend –

Daisuki Izutani Grade 12 - triple jump 12.86m – previously 12.71m 1998

Mike O’Friel Grade 10 - Javelin 44.52m – previously 42.69 by Mark Chatting 2002

Jaime Zobel Grade 9 – 5000m 17min 10.17sec – Jaime broke the school record that had been standing since 1995 the week before IASAS 18min 04sec , then again in IASAS.

Our IASAS team this year consisted of 17 athletes who joined the team for the first time – they were incredible and truly produced some magnificent results. I hope that they and the veteran athletes train during the off season to be prepared for T&F 2006. For those who did not know ISM will be hosting next year – planning for which will start next week in the hope that it will not only be the best IASAS that ISM has hosted but the best ever T&F meet. 2006 going for Gold!

I would like to send my sincere thanks to –

I hope to see you all for the end of season banquet which is on May 13th 5.30pm.... in the meantime.......  I would also appreciate some feedback from both athletes and parents.
