WELLNESS
ISM expects each of its students to work toward becoming knowledgeable, respectful, and responsible citizens. In keeping with these aims, the MS Wellness program seeks to inform students about issues related to their personal health and to assist them in developing the skills necessary to make good decisions about their health and safety.
--------------------------------------------------
Our program is based on the premise that, in order to achieve a state of wellness, students must understand the interrelated nature of physical, mental, emotional, and social health. By following our curriculum, students will:
Comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention.
Demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health-promoting products and services.
Demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health risks.
Analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health.
Demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health.
Demonstrate the ability to use goal setting and decision-making skills to enhance health.
Demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.
Wellness courses present health information that is developmentally appropriate for adolescents at each grade level. Course topics have been carefully selected to address the particular needs of our students at various stages of their adolescence and to assist them in making good decisions about their own health and safety during the teen years.
