TO:            GRADE 8 STUDENTS AND PARENTS

FROM:      THE GRADE 8 TEAM AND MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION

 SUBJECT: CWW January 23-27, 2006

Overview

Once again this school year, the tradition of Grade 8 Outreach continues (now called Classroom Without Walls  or CWW.) During the week of January 23-27, every eighth-grade student in good standing has the opportunity to participate in one of five service-learning projects.  Our security office will conduct a visual inspection of each site to indicate that all proposed destinations are suitable for our students.  Faculty and security guards will accompany all groups.

At ISM, we expect students to work to the best of their ability to be knowledgeable and responsible citizens.  CWW is a perfect opportunity to achieve that end by involving students in activities which promote empathy toward other populations, respect and responsibility toward the environment, and better understanding of global and local issues.  This is a unique opportunity to stretch learning beyond the walls at ISM and to allow our students the experience of contributing their skills and resources for the benefit of others.

Below, you will find a description for each CWW site and an estimated cost per student.  Please review the project descriptions carefully. Together, students and parents should mark the top 3 preferences on the sign-up form located at the end of this handout.  Although there are no guarantees, we will attempt to place students in one of those 3 choices.  It is a school expectation that all students take part in one of the service learning opportunities. The sign-up sheet must be returned to home base advisors  no later than Friday October 28.

Please note:  For all sites will run from Monday January 23 through Friday Januray 27, 2006.
